Modern cryptography – a core building block of cyber security – is based on a simple tenet. Not that codes and keys are unbreakable, but that the time it would take to break them is too expensive and time-consuming to be a feasible option. Quantum computing is set to shatter this illusion – and on a timeline that’s getting shorter with every new technological development. And while for the foreseeable future there are many safe encryption methods available for enterprise leaders, they must assess their existing environment for the potential impact of quantum computing.
