Exploring the data gap - a guide to leveraging the value of data

Data as a raw material will shape and change the world in the future. However, for this to happen, data has to be transformed into information, and information has to trigger processes or events. This means that data has to be refined and used in the right way. There are still some open questions as to how companies can refine and utilize their data to create new, innovative, and viable business models.
Currently there is a gap between the awareness of the value of data and the utilization of data; between collecting big data and collecting correct data; between storing data and enriching data. Even more important – there is a huge gap when it comes to companies leveraging their data with new technologies such as AI, IoT, and big data to improve processes, products, services, and strategic decision-making.
To explore this gap in more detail, PAC and the experts from DataValueThinking are launching a survey among decision-makers in the DACH region. We want to find out why these gaps exist and what prevents companies from closing them.
The survey will cover four levels:
- Data strategy & culture
- Data utilization & monetization
- Data management
- Data infrastructure
Unlike many other surveys which address either strategic, business-related, or technical aspects of data, this survey focuses on the interfaces between these areas, and their integration. Previous surveys have shown that each area of the business – strategy, operations, and IT – addresses the topic of data, but there seems to be a gap in collaboration and integration. Therefore, this survey will cover four levels, and allow providers and sponsors to position their services and offerings in the context of how to close this gap through their specific competencies. Together with our partners, we will also outline approaches to closing the gaps.
We would like to invite technology and consulting partners to support this survey as sponsors and to position their offerings in the context of data monetization, data culture, and data management.
