Infosys drives forward its network of co-innovation spaces and a digital learning platform

PAC had the opportunity to participate in Infosys' EMEA Confluence 2018, the European flagship event of the company, taking place in Rome at the end of October. PAC expected Infosys to focus above all on its AI platform NIA, which combines big data/analytics, machine learning, knowledge management and cognitive automation capabilities and also includes end-to-end RPA capabilities to enable a wide set of solutions for specific industries and with specific functions. And yes, NIA did play a role at the event but was not a top priority. Instead, Infosys put much more emphasis on two other areas: collaborative innovations, especially around the digital customer journey, and digital learning experiences.

From our perspective, this shift from a technology concentration towards digital co-innovation and learning was interesting to observe and is a very well-chosen approach. We strongly agree that, besides highly sophisticated technical capabilities to foster digital transformation, especially larger organizations are under a lot of pressure to bring digital innovations much faster to market (through collaboration with external innovation partners) and to support the existing workforce in defining and executing their personal digital education journey. Infosys is today well-positioned to help clients in both aspects and can be seen as a role model in this regard. Almost all its 200,000 employees have received training in design thinking methods and about a third have been trained in new digital technologies such as artificial intelligence.

Having completed the acquisition of Brilliant Basics in 2017, a London-based product design and customer experience (CX) company known for its design thinking-led approach, Infosys is now more and more aggressively expanding its worldwide connected network of Digital Studios. The concept of those studios allows co-location and co-creation by using design thinking, agile sprints, rapid prototyping and collaboration across all connected studios. The latest move in this context occurred in July 2018, when a Design and Innovation Studio was launched in Berlin, adding to a quickly-expanding network of Infosys’ Digital Studios across the globe – from Indian Bengaluru and Pune to New York, Seattle, LA, London and Melbourne. In addition, Infosys launched a Digital Center of Excellence in Marseille, France, in June 2018. This is all part of an ambitious mission to support clients with local digital innovation support on a global scale.

In April 2018, Wingspan was launched, which is an interactive learning platform for enterprises. This solution had previously been in internal use at Infosys under the acronym “Lex“. Wingspan is cloud- and mobile-based and can thus be accessed anytime, anywhere and from any device. It includes excellent content from multiple sources, and users are provided a personal and engaging experience. By means of machine learning capabilities, the solution provides tailored and relevant learning recommendations, while the AI-powered, voice-enabled “learning assistant” offers guidance at any stage of the learning process. The connected and collaborative solution also allows to interact with peers and provides opportunities for collaborative and competitive learning.

Just to complete the latest string of acquisitions, Infosys invested in Fluido in September 2018, a Salesforce advisory and consulting company in the Nordic countries. In line with the event’s slogan, “Navigate your next“, PAC expects to see even more moves by Infosys in the areas of digital co-innovation, user experience and learning.
