SAP also offers ERP suites as a service with SAP Business One and SAP Business ByDesign.

SAP offers a number of SaaS solutions to existing ERP customers and Non-SAP-customers. In addition, SAP has started offering APAP-based business applications that have been optimized for SAP HANA as a subscription service via the cloud. This is part of SAP's S/4HANA strategy, the vendor's next generation, core system. SAP has developed and released a cloud edition of S/4HANA.

Portfolio

CRM: SAP offers, for example, SAP Cloud for Sales, Service and Social Engagement, SAP Precision Marketing.

Finance & accounting: SAP offers solutions as part of SAP Business ByDesign, part of SAP Business One, and Simple Finance (part of S/4 HANA).

Human resources: SAP offers a collection of applications for various HCM topics such as recruiting, payroll, performance management, and workforce planning. This includes solutions from SuccessFactors, Fieldglass, and Concur.

Supplier relationship management: SAP offers solutions based on Ariba.

Office & collaboration: SAP offers SAP JAM (a tool for social collaboration).

Other horizontals: SAP offers, for example, hybris Cloud for Commerce (omni-channel commerce solution based on hybris).

PAC’s view

Two large acquisitions, SuccessFactors and Ariba, have made SAP a strong contender in the SaaS space. Given its outstanding market position in Germany, SAP will be able to successfully sell its SaaS solutions to its loyal customer base. Additionally, SAP runs local data centers in Germany and has a large network of partners.

Another driver for SAP’s SaaS business will be S/4HANA because this next-generation suite is also offered in the cloud. In addition, S/4HANA will include elements of SAP’s SaaS solution portfolio. For example, 'Employee Central', a key component of SuccessFactors, will be the new core HR inside of SAP’s next-generation business suite.

SAP’s main challenger in Germany is Saleforce.com. The SaaS pure player has managed to win a number of large SAP accounts with its CRM-related solutions. However, Microsoft (with Dynamics CRM Online), Oracle, and Workday (the US-based vendor that has recently entered the German market) are competing against SAP in its home market as well.
